What is Fioricet:

Fioricet is one of the more popular pain relief medications being prescribed by doctors.  It is a combination of Acetaminophen, Butalbital, and caffeine.  This is commonly prescribed for migraines and other pain related conditions.

Dosage:

Fioricet should be taken by mouth, with or without food, or as directed by your doctor. Doctor’s normally base dosing amounts on your medical condition or your body’s response to therapy. As mentioned earlier, this medication may cause dependence. Do not stop, lower or increase your dosage without prior instruction from your physician.

Precautions:

  • This medicine can be a habit-forming and should only be used in the amounts and length of time prescribed by your doctor.
  • This medicine should not be taken together with alcoholic beverages.
  • Taking this medicine may induce sleepiness and slow breathing. The use heavy equipment and driving should be avoided when you are using Tramadol.

Under any circumstances, do not take more Fioricet than what was prescribed by your doctor. If the drug is not having the desired effect, consult your doctor to see whether or not a higher dose is advisable.

Taking Fioricet:

This medicine should only be taken in the manner prescribed by your doctor. Typically, Fioricet is taken every two hours, though the intervals may vary depending on some factors. A maximum of six doses is allowed over a 24-hour period. Emergency medical attention is needed to deal with an overdose. Signs of an overdose include irregular heartbeats, insomnia, dizziness, and fainting spells. If not immediately treated, an overdose can result in a coma or partial paralysis.

Missed Dose:

If you missed a dosing schedule, take the missed Fioricet as soon as remembered. If it’s near the time for the next dose, do not take the missed Fioricet and just resume with your regular dosing schedule. It is not advised to double up on the dose just to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose:

If Fioricet overdose is suspected, rush to the nearest emergency room and seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of Fioricet overdose include: insomnia, restlessness, tremor, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, sweating, seizures, drowsiness, decreased breathing, dizziness or fainting, confusion, an irregular heartbeat, and coma.
